During the past decade, a considerable amount of effort has been made in studying and designing ATM switches which is believed to be the most developed aspect of ATM. The field has now become a mature area and ATM switches are becoming commercially available. This special issue will include a set of original and survey articles from both industry and academia that represents the current state-of-the-art in ATM switching. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
