Devon Energy Hall

Graduate instruction and research in computer science began in 1969 at the University of Oklahoma with the creation of a unit called Information and Computing Sciences. This unit was under the direct supervision of the Provost until 1972, when it became part of the College of Engineering. An undergraduate program in computer science was added in 1976, and computer science became an integral part of the School of Electrical Engineering, which was later renamed as the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The first MS,degree in computer science was awarded in 1972, the first PhD, in 1973, and the first undergraduate degree in 1979-80.

Computer Science remained in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science until 1992, when the School of Computer Science was formed with nine faculty. Since its creation, the School of Computer Science has grown to 15 faculty, including six hired since 2001. These new hires each have expertise in emerging research areas, with the goal of continued growth of the School's research program and quality of instruction. We continue to recruit top undergraduate and graduate students.

In addition to the recent growth in CS faculty, our space has grown too and we recently renovated offices in the west and northwest areas of the Engineering Laboratory Building. We also are excited to have new lab and office space in the Stephenson Research Center and are looking forward to moving to our in the new Devon Energy Hall, which will also be the home for the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering
